    Posted: Jan/12/2026 at 1:07pm
I joined the forum back in 2021 when I was trying to get ready for retirement and I found a 1971 Javelin as a project to give me something to do beside watching TV.

Four years later I finally retired in December 2024 and really did not start working on the car until spring of 2025.  Between 2021 and 2024 I spent allot of time on the forum learning and searching for parts.

While reading and learning here, I found tremendous amount of good information was included in the "build stories", but at least for me it required allot of reading or manual searching, so when I had a question, I created a new post on the specific topic if I could not find the information I needed.

After reading how many forum members document their projects, I went back and found the posts I created or replied to for the project that I thought may be useful or at least help document how the car is progressing.

Hopefully all of this makes sense, at least it did to me and my deranged brain!

I have two more brake lines to run and then I will be moving on to replacing the power steering pump.  After refilling the reservoir several times and finding the fluid on the floor below, it seems this is the next thing that needs attention.

The car has an Eaton pump, and I find more than one place I could get a rebuild it, but in addition to the leak the pulley/shaft can be moved forward and backward about 1/4" and since Rockauto had a pump listed, I ordered one, plus a filter for the return line, and a new return hose.

By the time these parts come in I am hoping I will be ready to install them and keep the project moving.

Great to have a retirement project!  I'm annoying as heck to have around the house if I don't have a car project going, so I'm told.  Something about giving me meaning and purpose, I guess.

I'm fond of standard Javelins, as you can see, and I like the green color of yours.  Don't see too many of the 71-74 in that color.

Keep up the good work, Joe!

You have some pretty nice project cars there to keep you busy, lol.  I have a BMW too, a 2007 335i, and just fixing what breaks on that one keeps me hopping.
