York 210, Leaking

   Hi Everyone,
I have a 78 AMX, with the York 210 AC Compressor.  I recently overhauled the engine bay and just now getting to the AC.  I put it on a vacuum and it has a slow leak somewhere.  So I went around replacing O-Rings, listening for the leak, etc.  Couldn't find anything.

I put a shot of green dye in and a can of R134 and let it run for a while, the leak finally showed itself, sort of.

It is leaking out of the bottom 4 mounting holes (it mounts vertically), I looked everywhere above that, no dye anywhere.  It was freshly cleaned up and painted, so it would be very visible.  Which leads me to believe it's the gasket on the bottom plate.  Easy enough -- however, is there a oil exchange between the refrigerant and the crank case?  How did the green dye get into the crank case?  Do I have a larger issue than a bottom gasket leaking?

FWIW, the air did work, it's just the slow leak that I need to get fixed before I button everything up!

	These compressors are prone to leaking oil ( and refrigerant ) out through the bottom gasket.The gaskets wick oil out over time. I've replaced several all of which were seeping oil out at the bottom. The crankcase is vented to the suction side of the compressor so there is some charge in the crankcase.
	Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

	Thanks George I appreciate that. I ordered a gasket set, should be in tomorrow and we'll give it a go! Feel much better knowing that there is supposed to be some exchange between the crankcase and suction. Thanks, Tom

	Hey Tom, Did you get the replacement compressor gaskets ?

	Yes.. I replaced the bottom gasket and it seems to have fixed my issue. I decided that the rest of the gaskets could be changed without removing the compressor from the car so I only did the leaking one, but still have the rest if needed later. I also used the new square cut o-rings for the service valve to compressor mounting. So far, so good though, thanks!
