My Jav never did have air and with almost all our driving being on the highway it would be nice to keep the windows up while driving so I'm looking into the Vintage Air kit.  Dropped by the local distributor today and borrowed their mock up of the GenII Compac and Mini which are here:  http://www.vintageair.com/catalog11/pg45wc.pdf
Both units fit but I prefer the compac as the AC and heat connections are topside.  Here is a pic of the Compac mock up unit sitting in my Jav:

This pic shows how my defrost will fit nicely over the defrost outlets on the unit, I'll get creative with some foam and a divider and it should be fine...I rarely use defrost but figure I may as well have it anyway.  I'll also need to make some deflectors so the heat goes to the driver or passenger floors as the outlets are pretty much in the glove box:

I'll be using the 4 lever rectangular controller which will fit nicely where my old controls fit:

Not sure on the louvers, maybe the 490621 rectangular or 490541 round ones:

Jeff...

Pretty Sweet Jeff! How are you going connect with the suction & discharge lines to the hvac housing. What expansion valve and a/c compressor will you be using? Details please. Always curious!!!

I'll get the complete kit from Vintage air and will put a bulkhead connector where my old heater hoses went in.  Once I order the kit I'll get into more detail.

Jeff...

Does anyone have a pic showing how their condenser is mounted and where the lines run on the humpsters?

Jeff...

I was told by the local guy to budget $1500 for the complete system.  If anyone has a pic showing how their condenser is mounted and where the lines run on the humpsters it would be appreciated.

Jeff...

Finally got some time to work on the Vintage Air this week:

I went with the diamond shaped bulkhead fitting as it covered the hole where my heater core tubes were:

The evaporator is a tight fit, 1/2" deeper and it wouldn't work.  Vintage Air recommends blocking off all fresh air ducts but I put a louver in mine and ducted it to the fan inlet for those times I just want fresh air or to mix it with the AC.  The factory defrost vent will fit nicely over the Vintage Air defrost:

Here is the control panel, it fits right where the factory one was.  Also, I moved the cigarette ligher over and put the vent control for my fresh air louver next to it:
Regards,
Jeff...

The fresh air intake is a nice idea. I see you put in a control to turn it off, but where does the system draw in air with the fresh air blocked off? Looks like that's the only intake you have, and it ducts to the old heater fresh air intake.

The only fresh air in a Javelin (other than windows) is the vent in the cowl where I put the ducting to the AC/Heater control box motor and in the kick panel on the drivers side.

When the fresh air vents are closed, it would be the same as having a modern car AC on recirculate, it just cools and recirculates the air internally which is what Vintage Air recommends.

I prefer having fresh air but the only downside is you get condensation in the evaporator which drains out beneath the car...not too bad here as I live in a fairly dry climate.

Jeff...

Could answer a few questions for me please? I love your idea on adding fresh air through your cowl. I was planning on opening up my floor vents but this is way better. Where did you get your remote controlled louver at? Also, what did you use for dash outlets and do have pictures of them installed? I'm planning on doing this same setup later this year or over winter. Thanks a bunch for posting this!
