I sent my damper back to ATI for a rebuild and the post office
lost it!  This is for a 401 engine.

My question is which damper would be correct?

And, if the wrong damper is used (180 vs. 240) what kind of symptoms,
if any, might result?

Should be 180 degree for a 401 if my recent research into the subject is correct. The wrong one will probably give you a vibration.
I've finally given up drinking for good...........now I only drink for evil.

has anyone used this app?  looks quite promising for assistance
in determining vibration sources:

Yes, I have that app and used it to pinpoint a driveline vibration on my BMW 335.  Based on the information it provided I correctly diagnosed the problem as a driveshaft center support bearing and changed it myself for less than $200 vs. $2k or so it would have cost me if the dealer had gotten hold of it.

I also ran it on my '72 Javelin and it told me the engine, driveshaft, rear diff and tires were ALL vibrating, lol.

Bummer about your damper!  Can't give much insight on what an out of balance damper feels like, but if it's anything like an out of balance flex plate you'll know something's wrong at anything over a fast idle. Sometimes it can just feel like an engine miss if it's only slightly out of balance.

An app and a phone( single input) aren't going to tell you anything that you should be able to sort out for yourself.
Engine/driveshaft/ and engine driven accessories ar a higher frequency than a tire/wheel/drum/rotor/axle

It's not as easy as you might think.  On the BMW, the app told me that it was a first order driveline vibration, which ruled out bad U-joints as they'd show up as 2nd order.  That meant it was likely to be the center support bearing, which was good news to me as that is replaceable while the U-joints are not.  On certain 335i you have to replace the whole driveshaft if the u-joints are bad.  Even the BMW driveline specialists tell you to get a new driveshaft from the dealer on my particular model.

I just added a '73 Javelin to my fleet and have new tires and wheels on order for it.  It will be interesting to see what kind of readings I get on the app with it.  As you might guess, it helps to be on nice smooth pavement to keep the background vibrations to a minimum.

Im talking old car. Simple as it gets unless an individual is sensory deprived.  These cars were built and maintained by people that didn't need apps and plug in diagnostics to maintain it for a bunch of decades.

Some truth to that, though sometimes hard to distinguish a u-joint vibration from a bent wheel.
