A little back story on this engine. Bought this engine when I a friend switched to chevy. This motor was apart and included with everything I got. I was told that it was a 417 engine it has alum rods and due to oil pick up breaking it ruined 2 rods. I now want use this engine in my J10 and need some guidence on what I need to swap to steel rods. I know you guys have more knowledge about what is needed.
Here is what I have: Crank - Standard mains at 2.749 .020 under chevy rods at 2.079 Rods - Current rods Childs and Albert alum rods at 350 + 150 = rod length 5.850 Wrist pins are 1.000 Big end width is 0.942 Pistons - My best measured compression height is 1.495 ( wrist pin top to piston top +half of wrist pin ) Wrist pins are 1.000 so that is 401 pin size Block - Bore is 4.177 so that is .010 over stock 401 at 4.165 So my question are is it to find a rod I need chevy 5.850 length with 1.000 pin or maybe get a piston made to go the bore I and have with standard .927 pin. I will set up crank in block and test fit a rod and piston to see where piston is at deck or how far below deck. I do not know if block was decked or what stroke of crank is. I have had this engine since 1984 so it was built long before the on what is being done today.
