I’ve acquired just about everything I need for the T5 swap. I’ll be doing all the work I can before removing the 727, and then I’ll get everything together for the actual manual swap. I’m feeling pretty good about it overall!

The forum likes flipping all my pictures sideways… 🙄 Anyways, I used the hot/cold method to get the input shaft bearing on. Worked great! Still waiting on a few small parts, but I’ll get it back together with the shortened input shaft and Jeep retainer soon.

Got the new input shaft on. Hoping to rip out the Torqueflite this weekend.

This project reminds me of the Charity AMX from years back.

How so? I only vaguely remember it.

The idea of the charity AMX was for AMC'ers around the country to restore an AMX and auction it off for charity. AMC groups were to transport and restore a portion of the car and let it move on to the next group until completed. From what I can tell from online posts, it did not go well. Some people did make excellent contributions to the project, while others did poor quality work and some were taking good quality parts off the car and putting on lower quality parts, etc. The saving grace for this fiasco came in the form of a long time AMC collector in Canada named Fred Phillips. Fred paid to have the car restored and when it sold at auction, Fred then double the money with his cash, as a donation to the charity. Thanks Fred! You demonstrated that our community can make the right choices, even though some people were working against that goal.
Tom
PS I am sure there are others on the forum who can fill in many details, but this is how I understand the overview. Also, I don't see the similarity to the Faster and Louder Javelin.

The 727 was taken out a few weekends ago. We made modifications to the trans crossmember to allow us proper fitment for the trans mount. We got the bellhousing, clutch, trans, and shifter installed last week. Last week I also got measurements for the new driveshaft and put Precision Driveline in charge of making me the new one.

Today I got the new driveshaft and got to work on assembling almost everything that was left. The strut rod was removed and drilled for the Z bar mount a few days ago, so it was reinstalled along with the rest of the clutch linkage. New fluid was put in, the driver side header was tightened up again (loosened to get strut rod bracket off), and “exhaust” was put back on as well.

All that’s left is figuring out the backup lights and reinstalling my O2 sensor. Then it’s time to test everything out!

Well, I got an actual exhaust installed and everything with the transmission “worked”, but I stupidly didn’t get the flywheel balanced so it all had to come back out to get that done.

I also had a small oil leak near the back of the oil pan. Tightened it up a bit and I think it’ll be ok. Debating getting a Centerforce clutch for when I put it all back together, but they are pricey. I also had some weird wear patterns on the flywheel (small heat spots on one half of the flywheel?).

Decided to get the Centerforce clutch while I had everthing back apart. Everything is going pretty smoothly so far!
