Alright guys and gals
I am stumped. Can anyone help me I'd this trans? I believe it to be amc but my father disagrees. Help me bring this argument to rest! . It has a 32 spline output shaft, an 8.5" input shaft Case is cast, tailshaft housing is aluminum Casting part number is t10-p-1b with no date code Front of the case has sk 4516 xk engraved as does the I'd tag Tailshaft housing has 13-04-066-901 If pictures would help I'd gladly text them. My number is 8105420198 THANK YOU IN ADVANCE! |

Check the tailshaft for a date code on the passenger side. The early T10's had different ratios, there was a 2.23 first, 2.43, and 2.64.

1970 AMX, one step forward, one step back. Both steps cost time and money.

"It has a 32 spline output shaft," I thought the AMC was 28 splines?

I think the Super T-10 has 32 spline output. Should be date code somewhere on right side about the middle. Someone else can chime in I’ve been wrong before?

I believe super T 10 were all aluminum and AMC had groves in the input shaft to tell what ratio trans was . any metal tags on trans

The tail housing and shaft are GM Super T10, likely the late 70's.
The front is AMC. Someone has done some mixing and matching that can be done with the right aftermarket parts that were plenty available in the late 70's. The BW Power Brute was a GM iron case T10 that had parts that interchange with the AMC T10. You could use gears from the Power Brute and install them in an AMC T10. So basically you have an AMC/GM hybrid. Be interesting to find out what gears are in it. Here is a link that may help if you decide to take it apart and try to figure out what's inside:

Some pics of an AMC T10 I have laying around. I haven't see a lot of AMC T-10, but they have all had cast-iron tail-housing. Interesting stuff on the Power Brute, I'll have to take a look. Be careful looking at rebuild stuff for GMC etc. The T-10 in my car was put together with a spacer for the rear bearing per a GM diagram. The AMC diagram has the spacer on the opposite side of the bearing. Result was a catastrophic rear bearing failure.

It's a mix of parts, as some have said.
