There is a relay/switch that is bypassed near the starter solenoid on the 74 Javelin i just bought.

I cannot remember what this relay/switch is for.

The right connector is removed, bypassed with a piece of wire, while the left connector is still connected.

I attached a photo pointing to it.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks That is what I thought it might be, which explains why it is bypassed.

My seat belt buzzer and warning indicator are both on when I go to drive it.

They go off after I put the seat belt on.

What is the "correct" way to handle these things these days?

I'm pretty sure there was a very old technical service bulliten that told dealerships if the interlock system ever becomes troublesome, simply cut and splice together the two green wires on that connector.

That bypasses the interlock but keeps the warning system working.  Sounds like it's working fine as long as the buzzer/lamp go off when your seatbelt is fastened and it's in reverse or drive, 2 or 1.
I am genetically incapable of being Politically Correct.

AMC produced an interlock bypass kit (I wish I had one!)

My original '74 Hornet one simply has that plunger permanently depressed (with a small fat screw holding it in place), it works fine that way.

74 Hornet Hatchback X twins (since 1977)
62 American Convertible (still worth the $50 I spent in 1973!) AMCRC #513, AMO #384
70 AMX 360 4-speed (since 1981)

if its available napa should be able to get it.. however theres not a whole lot of parts guys at any napa that are willing to take the time to find it.  most want to just try to look it up on the computer and dont bother checking the actual parts books.

When you jump the connector out as in the pic, does this bypass the neutral safety switch also..?
