The electric wipers on my '71 Ambassador suddenly have stopped working. I've verified that the motor is getting 12V when the wiper switch is on, and I can move the wipers along by hand when switched on, "helping" the motor along. It's a Prestolite ESY4006A motor. (What a piece of junk, going bad after a measly 50 years!) Anyone know of a good place to get this rebuilt, or to to buy a replacement?

That's Dave Bass. There are many members here who can attest to the quality of his work, including myself.

Do not go thru arizona AMC for wiper motors or any thing for that manner , i had an engine done by him and at 2000 miles 2 months it blew head gaskets and started smoking real bad and he will not stand by it even tho his website clearly stated full warrenty on rebuilds . he also put in an old distributor that the V/adv, did not work , a cam barring spun and the dis. cam was wore out , Not to mension the ford roller rocker arms broke the studs as they did not fit properly ( clearance to the stud bolt not adequit when they came loose . A bad AVS 2 carb and a cam change due to spinning a barring . now that its smoking and the head gaskets are seeping he wont honor his warrenty on these new issues . STAY AWAY FROM HIM !! Just say'n folks . Sav'n you time and money !!

BillD would be the first "go to" but you would want to find out how long his turn around time may be. David Bass turn around is pretty fast and does nice work but not to the level of detail that BillD provides. David Bass's work is show quality, BillD's is as good or better than new.
Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

I sent BillD a private message yesterday and am waiting to hear back. I figured it would be nice to give the business to a forum member here. Within reason I'm not too concerned about turnaround time.  The Ambo is not used much and I avoid driving it in the rain, but you never know when you'll be caught in an unexpected cloudburst. I would like to be able to reinstall the motor before the dead of winter though.

I have the old motor out, which was a lot of "fun", it really looked like it had been in there for 50 years. As usual the linkage clip flew off for parts unknown when I finally got it loose. Fortunately the area the wiper motor mounts to is not in too bad shape. A couple of small rust holes but I've seen a lot worse.
