Headers on a plow truck???
Headers only provide more HP at the top end of the RPM range (they do provide a little gain in the middle but not much, 1 to 5 HP). Unless your doing the 1/8 or 1/4 mile pass on each plow run your not gaining anything with headers. Some manifolds and new pipe to the mufflers would be the long term solution.

Which Remflex part number are you using? I ask because they offer one with more coverage to help with crummy header flanges.

It's a plow truck which indicates to me air temperature is colder. You normally don't have to worry about a plow truck engine overheating unless there is something wrong with the cooling system.
Here, depending were you are and outside temperature, they don't turn them off so they stay warm. Agree, if the truck is being use in the summer months for heavy work, headers would help keep the engine cooler.

Who cares if its got headers on a plow truck?? I would run open headers and wake up the neighbors!! Find some stock exhaust manifold gaskets and double them up and your problems should be solved. done it more than once and a easy fix!!

My headers that i have had for close to 30 years had the same problem, the tops of the exhaust outlets were almost visible over the flange. About 1/16” overlap. Always had leaks along the tops. Blackjack headers, I believe. I finally figured it out & got a welder to add 1/4” to the top of the flanges. Remflex gaskets.

I agree with this statement 100%...
The only thing that I didn't care for is sometimes the gasket will stick to either the header or the side of the head and once they tear, they're kind of expensive to replace. |
