If you look at the Wilwood drawings it says you need 1.25" from the face of the spindle (face of bolt hole) to the rear face of the Wilwood caliper mount, use spacers as needed. You can use any spindle EXCEPT the 76-78, which uses a large bearing. ALL other AMC spindles are the same, disc or drum, but the base thickness is different. With disc spindles you won't need spacers, with drum spindles you will. You can be off that 1.25" measurement a little, like +/- 1/32" (1/16" total) and be fine. Grade 8 washers (hard, won't crush like standard hardware store washers) work fine as spacers.

[QUOTE=nickleone]The benefit of Scarebird you could buy parts at the local parts store, not order and wait for replacements.
For a cruiser or daily driver it was unlike any of the 70 to 80 AMC brakes which are difficult to source.
If you were replacing drums the were good. They were not for racing road or drag. I have 15k miles on my set and replaced some pads and a caliper in 12 years.

I'm with you.  I've got a set on the front of my 73 AMX. those along with the factory 10" disc I have on the 8.8 Ford rear end I put in, stops this thing better than most of my cars.  Like you said, inexpensive, parts are plentiful and they work great.  They're not Wilwoods or Baers, but they work pretty well for a "driver"

A bracket and a spacer, then uses OEM components. Not sure where this is "cobbled" garbage. Last time I checked, mixing different components to come up with a better solution was called hot rodding..

I posted this in another thread, but thought I might better post it here.
Rustic Disc Brakes sells an AMC drum to disc kit for $650 (plus shipping). It is similar to the Scarebird big disc kit -- uses 11.25" rotors and GM calipers. I believe these are Ford Explorer rotors. They only sell it as a complete kit with new spindle mounting bolts and hoses -- everything you need. Cost is about the same as a Scarebird bracket set and new components from their supplied list. The kits are made by TSM, but TSM doesn't sell direct to customers. TSM lists two sources, but only Rustic has the AMC kit on their site. The other sire is mainly a hot rod site and lists straight axle kits.
