Hey all, 72 Jav, orig R12 system without any charge. I was referred to Original Air in Fla from Classic Auto Air (who doesn't deal with R12). $180 to rebuild drier, yikes. add shipping/tax and wait list, making me wonder if there's alternatives someone can recommend? A cheaper place or can a new generic unit be re-plumbed for the R12 fittings, assuming these things contain no 134 oil off the shelf?
Thanks in advance and grateful for all involved here keeping AMC going strong!

A generic one will work if you can adapt it. All they are is a can with a desiccant bag in it. I use the UAC ones off of Amazon for $12.

Thanks Mopar, rather not assume as AC mistakes can cost a bit. UAC open up a bunch or options on Amazon. Also future replacements will be straightforward and cheap.  No info on thread sizes on Amazon but friendly return policy. found one ebay with more specs. I may order a few after I vacuum test first and will post any success.

Depending on your drier to high pressure outlet connector type (flare vs tube-o) and your condensor to drier connection option (see the pic below), you might be able to use of one the the following 3 driers, either way you would probably have to get a new lower connector line made.  You would also have to make an adapter for the bracket mount, I think the stock bracket is rotated 90 degrees from the top fitting, all 3 of these seem to be parallel to the top fitting.

Thanks for info and pics! I'm plumbing to a 74 condenser/drier (i think) My drier out port has an o-ring fitting going to inline check valve so the 2nd or 3rd versions look best. Amazon has a completely different photo of the 33371, but their details are often snafu. Can get better/more photos/application data off ebay as these are Ford, early 70s, and may be closest to ours but still trial and error. I hope to post a winner in due time.

So here's the 4 seasons 33372 in comparison. It was a pretty good pick as both in and out fittings mate well if I remove the check valve on the out port. Seems to me its only purpose is stopping Freon discharge when disconnecting the sight glass line as that line defeats the check valve when its attached. It needs about 1.5" more length to reach the lines. Drilling 3/4 hole in the radiator mounting wall would be easiest but hate to butcher stuff so extending the lower fitting is preferred but don't know if flare or Ferrell fittings will be leak free??
