Hi folks I'm a Jeeper and own a 1980 AMC CJ-5. Today I was at the dump getting rid of some junk and came across a Dana-Spicer Power Lok . Typical Power Lok with two-piece case and two cross shafts seating in "v" shaped cutouts. Looking at it I think it from an AMC 20. It has 8 ring gear bolt holes (7/16"), The axles splines look about 29 and the diff bearing had no shims (AMC 20's have the shims between the bearing cup and housing). Numbers on the diff are 5 5 66A (probably mfg date), and 23784X (typical Dana Spicer part number endng with an X). Can anyone verify this as being an

AMC 20 Power Lok by the information I have provided?

Not sure about the numbers you listed, but the two i have for amc 20 are 26605 X. They are both from 68/69. My understanding is the X denotes LH threads.

Mopar used a Dana sourced Sure Grip that looked very similar to the AM Twin Grip unit. Could be one of those....

There's nothing on the case that is left hand threaded . The Case bolts are standard 3/8x16 thread.

Mopar Power Loks (Sure Grip?) uses 3/8" ring gear bolts. Sure would like to know if this Power Lok will fit my Jeep. There is tech info on West Coast Differentials's web site that says the ring gear flange height (distance from end of diff bearing journal end to ring gear flange ) is 1.6" for 2.73 and down ratio and 1.8" for 3.08 and higher. The unit I am trying to ID is 1.8 so if it is in fact an AMC Powr Lok , it would fit my 4.10 gears.

Another question: What is the AMC 20 ring gear ID (pilot register diameter) where it snugs up on the ring gear flange?

AMC 20 Power Lok by the information I have provided?

I have a cross reference that covers over 25 years that converts AMC part numbers to Dana Spicer part numbers, but I don't see that exact number you posted (23784X) anyplace in the conversion chart.

I do see Dana #23785X which cross's over to AMC part number 320 5811. The AMC application for 320 5811 is 1967 V8 American, Rebel, Marlin, and Ambassador.

Thanks Dennis. I appreciate your reply. Been trying to contact some one at Dana Spicer but not getting the right web Site. I guess I'm out of luck. I had a Power Lok in and older CJ-5 with a Dana 44 and it really was a good unit. I changed out the stock Trac Lok in my current 80 CJ-5 for an Auburn and it's an improvement over the Trac Lok any way. Oh well, I found the Power Lok in a scrap yard so no money invested, anyway.
