I bought a new J-10 in 1976. It was tough as nails for 100k miles then the body disintegrated and the timing chain flew south. I drove that truck everywhere off road and it took a lot of punishment. Have fun.

Luckily where we are grabbing her from is where rust is not as much of an issue....as opposed to here in Canada hahaha

Luckily I have a friend whose dad has a J20 they worked on together and is willing to lend a hand when needed.

Finally making some progress on this wagoneer thanks to my pops. I bought it with a broken 401 in it, well in the back of it. my dad cobbled together a junkyard 360 to at least get it running, which he did on the past weekend....millions of mice are now without the exhaust pipe homes (this was a barn find). the 401 shortblock is almost done being built and i bought a used edelbrock pro-flo 2 for the 401...holefully our winter project time and money allowing...i'm all new to this so my dad is helping me with the project and the "posting" here.

Welcome to the forum.  I too just bought my first FSJ - an 81 J10 LWB, 360/4-speed.  Also a barn-find/estate sale, it's been un-used since 2002, so it's taking a little bit to breathe life back in it.  I've got lots to learn too, as my knowledge on these things quirks is pretty minimal - structurally and suspension wise they are very different from AMCs, that's for sure.

the wagoneer is finally ready to go in for a safety inspection. The "temporary" junkyard 360 starts like new. still chasing some "electrical gremlins Clown " from sitting in a barn in north carolina for 20 some years, as well as wiring customizations by previous owner. i put a new alternator and regulator on it (factory style, nothing non-original). it didn't have a gauge cluster so we found one (and put in LED lights). weird thing is happening though, when jeep starts and is running the "ammeter" goes to about -20, and then to about -30 as we rev it. oh, new batter to. Is there a chance the ammeter can be defective. its all wired based on tsm wiring diagram
