I'm considering attending the day at Atlanta Motor Speedway on the 17th in my Spirit.  The thing is, though, the drive from Alpharetta (~60 miles north) sucks you-know-what.  Plus, I have to do the drive down/up again the very next day, as I'm the autocross chairman for the BMW Club and our event is at AMS on Saturday (and I'll be in the Spirit for that event, BTW).  Not much of a fan of ~240 miles of driving thru 75/85/285/400 for all of that, but it's not as if Power Tour comes around every year.

These pics happen to be at AMS from last year.

On 2018 I did all seven days, and drove in from Los Angeles. 6500 miles RT. In my 1961 American roadster with the hopped up 195.6 OHV six.

I was certainly the furthest-flung participant. Hot Rod didn't even notice.

I had a blast and met great people  but it was 3500 cars, and most of th recent store-bought late model stuff. Not that I begrudge anyone their choice of fun,  but old/weird/homemade, I thought would have priority.

The attendees (and showroom floor drivers) were great, lots of amazing cars, but the org?  HOT ROD? Meh. Just going through the motions collecting money.

Scrappy. I had one like that, a 79 304v8, bought used from an AMC dealer back when I lived in Boston. Drove it eventually to California. That was a fun fast car!

This was indeed originally a 304, with 4-speed.

Denver to Memphis 1200+ miles in the Rambler getting 20 mpg at 65-70 mph in fifth gear.
T5 trans, 3.78 rear.  About 2500 to 2700 rpm Classic SW.  Gas is $4.75 to $4.30.

We were 5-1/2 hours to Memphis.   Got there at 11:45.  The registration line was 2-1/2 hours long!

The wagon made it just fine in the 100* heat.  Averaged about 18mpg with the twin turbo LS3.  Headed to Lebanon tomorrow.

Made it to Nashville Superspeedway around 1:00 today.   No issues with the wagon thankfully.

Cool thing was traveling for a couple hours behind a guy in an AMX!  Two AMC’s back to back.  We both made a stop and chatted for a while.  I think he was from Michigan.  Nice car.

We are staying at home tonight and heading for Hoover AL in the morning.   LAWD it’s been hot!
