When was the 390 rated at 310 HP???   Try 315, why can't these folks get things right?   I can tell you the comparison in today's market is not even close.....I love the Javelin, BUT any 68 Mustang Fastback with any engine will bring twice the price of a Javelin.....hate it but it is reality.   You can buy dang near any conceivable part possible for Mustang......just go to my nephews YouTube Channel......all he does is rebuild Mustang Bodies from VIN plate up (Peterson Restorations), he is young and very talented....just a fresh empty body brings $20K and he ships them all over the world!!

Let's face it the Mustang is half or less the build quality from Ford as the Javelin (I have owned several Mustang's myself), cheap Falcon based 6 cylinder cars, but you can make them anything you want with modern 5.0 FI or Coyote Power and so much aftermarket support they are hard to beat.  If you break out on the road, most likely you can find parts....that is most want.

BUT the consumer drives parts and prices, I'll stick with the AMC cars....fun, unique and a great bunch of fellow enthusiasts......sometimes at the mutli-make car shows hanging with the Chevy and Ford guys just isn't fun.....Dare to be different!!

A cherry Calcutta Russet 68 AMX recently sold on Hemmings Auctions for $88,200. so maybe the tide is turning a bit.
Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

neat!
i'd argue the Javelin was not their 1st "sports car"
'57 Rambler rebel V8/327!
maybe the rebel is more 1st muscle car and not sports car?
