I have used Sem products to re-do the interior trim panels on my 1972 Javelin SST. I first throughly cleaned parts with a stiff bristle brush, followed with a complete wipe down of Dupli-Color wax and grease remover, SEM adhesion promoter, SEM color. Works great, looks great and no problems.

Going well so far. Just have some areas to touch up then clear-coat it all.

What is the color (number, formula?) of AMC tan interior paint used in the '70s, and can it be purchased?

AMC used different shades of tan depending on the model year. Sometimes you'll see original AMC factory interior spray paint offered on eBay. Request a color chart from SEM as they may offer a color that would work for you. If not they can formulate paint to the proper color.
There are several paint vendors across the country that will mix paint for you and package it in spray cans. I'm sure there are folks here on the forum that have experience with them.
Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

AMARK (Mark Shuford) has (saddle) tan paint available in aerosol cans for ‘68, ‘69 & ‘70 AMX & Javelin. It works well, just degrease and use an adhesion promoter from either Duplicolor or SEM.
