How do you install pilot bushing in this crankshaft? It’s stepped not smooth. 390 running a T10. Bushing only goes in 3/16” or so but that’s it.

Never seen that kind of stepping on an AMC/Jeep crankshaft before.
Since it's easier and cheaper to machine a bushing to suit, I'd take the crankshaft and bushing to a machine shop and have them fit the bushing.
Machining the crankshaft to the correct dimensions for a standard bushing would be a better solution, but likely quite expensive and you really don't want someone to mess up a $1000+ part vs a $10 part.
It's not like your in there replacing this every couple of years.

IF you have the crank machined have it machined for a roller pilot bushing

I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS WILL WORK.  With the Mopars the end of all crankshafts are machined to accept the torque converter snout for the TF transmission.  I assume the '72 and up AMC cranks are machined to the same dimension.  The problem solver for the Mopars is to use a roller pilot bearing that fits in the crank register for the converter snout.  In this manner no machining is necessary and you get a roller bearing.  Here is a link to the bearing.
