Working on a possible stroker crank package like one I put together a while back.

Crank will be a billet 3.87 stroke, 2.1 rod journal, factory mains with the later rear flange for 727 and 400 transmissions

It will be a crank only or crank and Molnar 6" rod package

Working out details so I do not know price as of now. Hopefully have pricing in a week or so

If it is a go, it will probably be a year out for finished product

Tentatively, there will be 20 or more cranks available

Any interest?

I'd love 4" stroke.  But put me down for a crank and rods.  Got a virgin 401 block waiting.

Great initiative, would be outside of my current plans short of a lotto win, but always good to see parts being made.

"Darn it" been looking for a stroker, but settled on a 401 crank for my 360. If this had been available, I would have wanted one, confident there will be interest.

What is the reason for picking that stroke?  I know Molnar and K1 have done quite a few 4.0 and at least one batch of 3.9 stroke.  I like the Torqueflite/Turbo rear flange idea.

If you want a billet crank Moldex can make whatever you want in any configuration you want.

Now if someone has the dies made to make a forged crank that would be a breakthrough.

Most of us won`t be trying to make over 1000hp with it LOL

3.85" has been used as the best stroke for the block by various people in the past, more than that puts too much load on the piston rings due to the angle. Fine using 4" stroke on a low reving Jeep or a Drag car which is torn down regularly, but rings won`t last with high revs, and acute rod angles.

The 3.87 stroke worked well with the 2.1" rod journal last time. Nothing etched in stone as of yet

I was told, if dies and inserts were paid for, it does not prevent the company from selling to others using your investment. If you ask for the dies they give them to you without the shape inserts

Just from playing with numbers, a 428 CI AMC will make more HP then a 440 CI AMC if naturally asperated, using Edelbrock heads, single plane manifold and 1-3/4" or 1-7/8" headers.
Valve sizing and flow make a 428 a better displacement for AMC performance parts.
Substituted in several camshafts and the 428 was better or equal to a 440 at 500+HP.
Besides allowing more room for lift and displacement changes. Closer to the reliable 1.3" CH piston for ring wear.
It will allow for more boost also.
Believe John has thought this through.

Hi John, thanks for doing this, others have in the past and all cranks have sold out.

I suggested 3.85" as I know that has worked in the past, but obviously 3.87" is slightly better.

The forging company do not want to do the hard work of forming the dies, and then let you take them to another supplier who can then make them cheaper, not having the initial overheads. All these (I assume) Chinese companys are competing against each other and won`t want to give anything away that can be used by a competitor. They are very aware of how easy it is to copy,  if you can "obtain the plans"   LOL
