Hey AMC Fam.

Looking to update the front brakes on my 69 AMX. Trying to get away from the old 2 piston bendix solid rotor and find something with a little more power. Trying to stay away from the Wilwood stuff because it just seems extremely out of budget for what you get. I know for a while there was kits through kennedy or Peter Stathes that were reasonably priced at around $2000.
Wondering what everyone else is doing?
It is still sporting the trunnion style front end.

There are two threads currently going on about this, did you look at the Scarebird threads?

I haven't seen the scarebird thread, but i didn't want to run that setup if i could avoid it. Plus it was my understanding that scarebird was to be "no more" a while back so i'm looking for something a little more out of the box and throw on. A one day project instead of sourcing blazer calipers and escort rotors, etc etc.

I have this setup for two of my AMC's!
Was definitely cost effective by purchasing used brakes off eBay.

What are you doing with the car that the stock setup is not effective?

Aerospace has multiple Amc kits you might want to look at. They are aluminum alloy components with cast rotors.#POS Mike Luke i believe is his name on the forum is a dealer for them.

I see a lot of options for disc brake conversion, but I don't see many posts about this website, is there something that isn't good with their product(s)?

Thank you,

I first heard about them for Ford Bronco brakes.  They are not well known in the AMC world.  I think since Scarebird stopped production there has been a vigorous search for brake conversions.

Back to the question: What's wrong with your factory set up? Calipers (they are 4-piston, not 2-piston) are cheap and plentiful. Rotors are not. Yes, they don't shed heat very well, but they are still great brakes for most ordinary driving.
I don't drive my AMX that much-never once have the brakes not been more than adequate. My engineer buddy who drives his a lot, still has the factory Bendix system.
If it ain't broke---don't fix it!
