My first car was a ‘77 Pacer and it had manual front disc brakes/rear drums from the factory. Heavy car, stopped fine.
Much better than the ‘71 Pontiac LeMans I had with power drum brakes all ‘round.

my 69 AMX has manual master, front 72 up front discs and stock rear drums. I like the feel better than power. I don't think I lost anything going to manual from power when I changed it out like 20 years ago.

I also have manual brakes, using a Wilwood 15/16 master cylinder and 4-wheel disc brakes. I had used a 1-1/8 inch master cylinder earlier and the pedal feel was a bit much. The 15/16 is much better.

Manual brakes manual trans and manual steering is how real men drive. Just sayin'. I daily drive my 63 nova (I know it's not amc) it has 4 wheel drums. It stops great but you must pulse the brakes. If you try to just hold them down they either lock up or fade and it's terrible on the shoes. You just sort slowly pump them. I think disks are better in that they don't lock up as easily and much less brake fade.
