This thread went sideways!
To OP, I started 2 years ago looking to have my m-11 replaced with 200r4 and could not find a way to do it, unless I swap out my crank. If I did that I would get a 46RH and get a amc bell housing welded onto it.

What is a 46RH? I’m not familiar with that.

It is the hydraulic version of the a-518 made in the mid 90's, you can get them out of 95ish dakota's with a v8 and 2 wheel drive. It does not have a TCM, it uses hydraulic pressure to change gears and go into OD. There is a trans company in Louisiana that makes a kit to work in cars that came with a 727.

This isn’t the same transmission that failed in many Cummins Diesel Ram pickups, is it? I think every person I knew that had an early style Cummins Ram, had to have their transmission replaced.

A 92/93 Grand Cherokee 4.0l 2WD came with the 46RH transmission, 94-96 with the 46RE and both bolt directly to an AMC Gen2/3 V8. No welding or changing bellhousings.
A500 = 46RH/46RE, different names for the same animals. A518s are the heavy duty version of the 46RE. Most all parts are interchangeable. They are 727's with overdrive extension tail housings.

The Cummins depending on year either had a 47 or 48 RH. Is your car over 6,000 lbs/14,000 GVW and producing more than 600 lbs/ft of torque like the Cummins?

When I got my 70 AMX from my dad, I thought it was an all stock power train. 360 V8 with the borg warner auto trans. It has the original center consul with shifter and all. Looking at the car, unless you know what your looking for you can't tell it's got a 1987 GM 700R4 trans in it. It's got the adapter on the block, spacer on crank and spacers on flex plate to converter bolts. I found this when I went to get a new torque converter. But I love having the OD in the car. I found a lot that is not stock on the car that you don't see. Rear gear is 4:11 and with 15 " wheels and P245 65 R 15 tires I am at approximately 2300 rpm at 65 mph. Without the OD it would be 3200 or so rpm at 65. A very worthwhile addition if you ask me.

Can you provide details on what you did and where you got the parts? Thanks, Randy

That’s awesome, thanks for reinforcing my plan. We just want to enjoy driving & showing our car for as long as possible. Converting the transmission seems to be a no-brainer. We are not going to race the car or roast the tires. so I had not considered changing the rear gears, but I won’t rule that out either.
