Thanks for posting this! The dealer number should be for the old Greenfield Rambler, since the official dealership name change didn't occur until about 1970. IIRC dealerships were required to change their names and signage to "American Motors" during 1970... sometime before the end of the year. Many 68-69 dealers were still using "Rambler" in their name. I don't think the dealer number changed with the name change, so it should be good for the 70s as well. I doubt the numbers changed with the Renault "partnership" (it was supposed to be that initially...), but the numbers may have been reorganized in the 70s or 80s. Those "protectoplates" are where most of the known dealer numbers on the list come from.

Found this going through my 1970s collection of NY International Car Show brochures....a complete list of all the AMC dealerships in the NY/NJ/CT area, circa 1974. Enjoy!

Vic Hebert AMC was Denver's oldest car dealership at 3660 Downing Street. I purchased a Matador there in 1975. Salesperson was Vic's son, Don Hebert. Don later bought the Matador back from me for his wife, Mary. I would love to know whatever happened to Don and Mary and that Matador. It was a white Oleg Cassini model with every option.

The 72 AMX Javelin Pre-Production Prototype I’ve owned for over 38 years still wears the Richards AMC of Union, NJ dealer decal from when it passed through the dealership. The car was featured as part of a 2 page ad in the December 1971 Car Craft magazine. The ad featured the 1971 TransAm Championship winning Penske/Donohue 1971 Javelin AMX and a list of race wins along with the new for 1972 AMX Javelin with photos of both cars. The TransAm Red, 401, 4-Speed 72 AMX Javelin was built in April 1971 and has a unique VIN number, with the Sequence Number unstamped since as Dick Teague once told me it was pulled off the line and finished in the styling studio. I’m still researching the history of the car and how this prototype car got out of the factory. Being a prototype, it could not be sold as a production car. The car still retains non-production prototype pieces. The story is coming together slowly, any insight someone has on this car would be very much appreciated. Note: Richards AMC in Union, NJ is 6 miles from the family home of Mark Donohue in Summit, NJ. Was Mark given this car by AMC for winning the championship?

Since I don't yet have 30 points to post a photo with this reply, I would need to send a photo of the dataplate directly via e-mail. I've sent you an e-mail for your response.
