Do the late model V8 and 6 cylinder engines share the same bolt pattern for the bellhousings??? They both use the same tranny???

Almost absurd to blow money on Lakewood scattershield for AM inline six. Expensive enough just to build engine for 6000 rpm (good luck) -Stock flywheel is good for at least 6500. If the engine was external balanced 6500 might be cause for concern but AM inline six is internal balance.
Moreover, the 1/4" thick steel scattershield are 3x heavier than stock cast aluminum & will depreciate power to weight ratio. You'll be needing a Scat crank & rod set & forged pistons before you'll come close to needing a scattershield. Plan on spending the money just to properly build the engine for 6000+ rpm. First thing to buy is AM's book "Performance American Style" to learn the basics of building a higher rpm race engine. |

The six cylinder manual transmissions have a shorter input shaft than the V-8. That said, with the matching bell you can swap six and V-8 trannys. AMC typically used V-8 trannys on HD six cylinder cars -- usually fleet cars such as taxis (HD trans was an option, not all fleet/taxis would have it). The six cylinder bell is used with a mid 80s Mustang 5.0L T-5 conversion due to input shaft length of the T-5. Scattershield may be required for a racing class. Other than that, I'd say it's not needed as well.
