Very cool. I had a red on red '70 390 4 spd car for 30 years, this is making me miss it again.. Why going back to the 4 piston brakes though?

I figure if I'm going to have the wrong brakes on it, it should be aftermarket, not just another OEM setup. The single piston brakes would need to be rebuilt, so it didn't see too much more money to put the 4 piston stuff back on it. Just felt like the right move for me.

Kinda similar to finding original flared drums instead of cast finned drums.

Who knows, I may change my mind after I get it together.

With snow on the ground today, I thought it would be a good time to post a few pics of the car as I got it blasted.  This is a view from underneath showing the damage to the tunnel/fire wall area due to engine swap(s) in the past.

Some other damage to the bottom of the rockers and the 'jacking pads' in front of the rear wheels.  My intention is to get rid of the ugly, but not make this area perfect.

But again, I'm happy to have dented metal rather than lots of rot.  There are some pinholes in the floor immediately in front of the wheel houses, and some small patches required in the trunk floor, but things are pretty good.  One of the troughs had the weld cracked where it attached to the firewall.

Well, 45 degrees on Christmas eve, I was able to get a few hours into the car the last 2 days.  I got the inside covered with Dynamat.  I learned that the Mega Pack (9 sheets of 2'x4') is enough to do an AMX shell, not including the trunk or doors.  I had a little bit so that I was able to put some into the quarters and wheel wells behind the door.

I also learned that the big sheets were tough to lay down without wrinkling and tough to get to conform.  For example, one sheet was able to reach from the top of the dash area to the back of the seat recess.  But getting the material to fit tightly to the bends in the pedal area didn't go well, I ended up slicing on the inside corners to allow the material to fit properly.  If I was doing it again, I'd probably get the 18" x 36" sheets.

I used dynamat extreme, I like it, it stretches better than the eastwood stuff I've used in the past.  and I bought their tape to cover the seams, so hopefully I wont stick to the butyl as much when I'm working under the dash.

I've also been blasting and priming things like pedals and such.  Once I get that stuff painted, it will feel good to start adding parts to the car again!

Merry christmas to all.

The dynamat cost was $310 on amazon, probably 25-30 lbs total.
