My 69 AMX has an OEM type insulation pad pinned inside the hood. I am considering removing it due to air cleaner clearance. Currently there is no clearance. The pad presses down on the top of the air cleaner and the wingnut has punched a hole through the pad. The hood has a low (about 1 1/2") cowl type hood scoop currently. What can I expect from removing the insulation pad? More engine noise? Paint failure due to heat? Any enlightenment is appreciated.

My opinion would be to just cut a clean round hole for the nut and leave the pad on the hood.

Is the hood fiberglass? I've had my AMX in a few concours shows against some high end Corvettes and they all place a rag over the chrome aircleaner when in the sun. The reflection/heat reflecting like a magnifying glass with the hood open was damaging the hood/paint.

I remove all of my hood pads.I like the idea to cut a hole for the wing nut.
