Do not have the original trim rings for my Machine Wheels and am looking for other trim ring options to fit these wheels. Have read references that 15" trim rings for 80s Chevy trucks and big body Mopars will fit. Contacted American Performance inquiring if their 15" trim rings for later AMC rally wheels would work, but have not heard back from them. Would greatly appreciate more specific details and photos of what others have used for their Machine Wheels. Thanks! Gil

A recent episode of the tv show Mike Brewer's World of Cars ( of Wheeler Dealers fame ) featured a company in England that reproduces hub caps and such for what I'll assume are mostly British cars. They're a metal spinning firm. I don't recollect the name of the company but I'll look for that Episode using my On Demand feature on my Comcast cable.
The Machine trim ring looks to be quite simple in construction and since it's a press fit I would think that this company could reproduce them if they had a usable sample. There is likely enough demand for these to make it economically worthwhile. Did anyone other than me see this episode ? |

Found the episode on YouTube. Look for Mike Brewers World of Cars, Hubcaps for classic cars. The company is J. Hipwell and Son in Birmingham England. The episode is from July 2020.

The rings are not so much a press fit but a snap fit at the rim lip.

Due to lack of availability, I am considering moving away from the original Machine wheel trim ring design to a more conventional trim ring with spring clips. Would like to know if anyone has experience with what conventional trim rings will work with Machine wheels.

This is what I have filed for Machine trim ring application. Disclaimer: I have not used either of these, I simply saved them from earlier posts. #1: General Motors Part # 3901704. |

Thanks Roger, that's good information. Has anyone actually used any of these trim rings successfully? If so, please post some photos.

I realize you're looking for info, but this should be in suspension and wheel section... That might help get replies. You can also try an advanced search.
This has been discussed before and people have posted pics of the GM trim ring installed. I thought there was a GM truck or van trim ring that people were using?

Thanks Steve, moving the post to the Suspension and Wheels section might be a better fit. Am I able to move the post or does a Moderator need to step in?I have searched on the Forum, but have not been able to find specific information for Machine Wheel trim ring options. Like you, I have seen general references to Chevy truck and C Body Mopars, but no specific details, part numbers, step dimensions, or pictures.
Coker lists a 15" stainless steel trim ring, with a stepped outer edge, and 2.5" step that may work. |

Here's some pics of the trim rings that were on my Machine wheels
when I bought the car 31 years ago. I believe these are the GM truck or van rings.
Note how they fit in the valve stem area, & to the left & right
of the stem. If the ring is too deep, they hit the raised part of the
wheel before they can seat. No numbers on them to ID them. There are always some folks trying to reproduce the original trim rings, but they get scared off when they find out it would be a $250,000+ investment. And the potential purchasers of the reproduction trim rings don't want to pay more than $100 each for them. There was a poll on the Facebook Machine group a few months back, the vast majority of folks wouldn't pay more than $500 each for a complete Machine wheel reproduction. That would be a wheel, trim ring, & center cap with retainer. So, if that is all people are willing to pay, don't expect to see reproductions any time soon. Edited by scott - Apr/22/2021 at 6:37pm |
