Hey all, I’m a bit confused on how this blower and hoses hook up. This is the way the Javelin came to me from my dad and I’m doing my best to restore it. Been cleaning and replacing parts but ran into a issue when working in the blower motor. It looks like the heater has a U-tube to back in the firewall. Not sure why but I can replace that easy. But there are two other tube ends sticking out (see picture link) and that I don’t know where they go of it they are suppose to have hoses on them and connect to somewhere else. The service manual doesn’t cover the hoses and where they go. Anyone recognize these these guys? Also the blower motor has a hose connected to the body. What is that for? Cooling the motor? Hope you guys can help me out. https://i.imgur.com/0eTGhU3.jpg Edited by GoSST - Oct/02/2019 at 1:29am |

The upper circled port is one of the two for the heater core. The lower is one of two for the heater control valve. Your car has air conditioning and the the hose connected to the blower motor is a cooling hose that directs air from the blower wheel into the motor.
The heater core connects to a nipple at the back of the intake manifold and the nipple on the valve connects back to the nipple on the water pump that's above the alternator. I believe the hose to the water pump is routed through a retainer bracket that's attached to the choke housing of the carb. The intention is for the heat from the hose to warm the choke housing. I'm sure there are others here that can either confirm this or provide corrections to what I've stated. At least this will get you pointed in the right direction. |

Not to WARM the choke but to keep it from COOLING too fast. We were taught this years ago - through Ford training and even earlier as the pistachio ice cream quandary. That was the situation where a fellow every week would treat his family to some ice cream. The problem with his car only happened when he went in to buy pistachio ice cream. He'd return to his car to find it impossible to start - it flooded each time he bought that particular ice cream. Seems the other was packed and ready to go - but pistachio was hand-packed, so he'd wait in line at the counter, the staff would pack up his ice cream, bag it, and he'd check out. This was just enough time for the cool air to cool his choke thermostat - closing the choke. The solution was to run the heater hose back into the bracket by the choke stat - the warm hose would keep the stat from cooling too quickly in cool weather. So technically the heated air under the intake warms the choke opening it, it should be open by the time warm water gets up there, the heated water in the hose next to the stat says hey, the engine is warm, no need to choke it, slow down in closing. I may have info from Ford on this topic too, stating that if in cooler weather a warmed up car floods after sitting a few minutes, ensure the heater hose is in position. |

Wow. I never would have come up with that in a million years. So the top circled tube goes to the choke housing of the carb. And the bottom “y” is an inlet for the AC and heater core to the heating valve to control the temp?
Hope I got it right. Also if I plan to put a new EB carb on do I need to run this heater hose to choke housing? I imagine modern carbs have this as part of the design.

There's a "U" shaped stamped metal hose retainer bracket that attaches to the choke housing. The hose rests in this bracket and presses on the black bakelite choke cover on it's way to the water pump.
The top circled pipe is the heater core and this connects to the nipple on the back of the intake manifold. The lower pipe is from the control valve and this connects to the water pump via the choke housing. This is assuming that you have the OEM carb with the bracket.
