So I did a search for this, and found a lot of info, but not exactly what I was looking for.
I bought an 81 258 out of an SX4, it's going to go into an 80 Spirit. Can I use the Eagle pan/pickup, or do I need to switch to the Spirit style to clear the crossmember? And will the Eagle pan stick significantly below the crossmember? My Spirit is stock height and isn't going to be lowered, but I read about a few guys having issues with 4.0 pans bottoming out, and didn't know if I might face the same issue with an Eagle pan. Seems to me like the larger pan (thus increased capacity, right?) of the Eagle would be a good thing, right? Thanks! Edited by billd - Feb/06/2014 at 6:41am |

I'll be going the other way soon (putting an Eagle engine crossbar and suspension in my Spirit to lift it as a pre-runner) so I'm watching this too.

It's deeper, but not increased capacity as the sump is smaller "around".
Deeper and narrower. You'll not want an Eagle pan on the non-Eagle car. IMO, You'll hit bottom with it. The crossmembers are also a lot different. I'll find some better comparisons........... but this is an Eagle pan....I've got much better comparison photos here somewhere. Eagle deepest but narrow sump for crossmember clearances, 4.0 is deep and broader sump for more capacity, then AMC car, the least deep. This pic is an Eagle pan, and a 4.0 pickup tube. See how it's deep, but also forward as the Jeep 4.0 pan is larger capacity? I had to use an Eagle pickup and pan since it went into the Eagle. The jeep pan was broader, no clearance to crossmember. Showing why Eagle pan won't hold as much as the 4.0 pan.... VERY similar depth between Eagle pan and 4.0 pan - Jeep has more capacity, Eagle still just 5 quarts. You need the narrower eagle pan in an eagle - the Jeep pan would hit crossmember. |

and mostly just to throw my 2 cents in, and help show why a jeep pan wont fit in a spirit, spirit pan in front, jeep pan in rear. sitting on even ground:
also, spirit pickup on right, jeep on left:

Thanks! All those pics were very helpful- sounds like I'll be sticking with the Spirit pan.
