I still have the original trunk lid from the '70 BBB AMX I restored in the mid-2000s. The left rear side was pretty rotten so I found a replacement for the restoration. Fast forward to this weekend. I've got it and another rotten lid so I figured I could repair the BBB using metal from the other. Cut the rot out and removed that section from the other lid. It's not perfect but much better than what I cut out. Cut more metal out of the donor lid for the skin. Gonna use the metal brake at work on Tuesday to make it. Also noticed the other side lip is a bit bulged so I did some exploritory surgery on it. Sure enough it has some rot. I'll weld it up and treat it before putting the skin back on. |

Finished the metal work. Not my best but usable in case I decide to take the fiberglass off and put steel back on my '69 AMX. Edited by Rebel Machine - Jun/04/2023 at 4:44pm |

That seems to be a common rust area, I had to open my lid all the way across and about 4" up on each end to access the inside and clean up the rust I has to replace the lower hem, nice work.

Looks like nice work. On my trunk lid we also had to cut the structure to get the contour to match the quarter extension and tail light.

1970 AMX, one step forward, one step back. Both steps cost time and money.
