The 68-70 AMX and Javelin outer/inner rocker panel was galvanized. I cannot remember if the front frame rails were, but I don't recall them being galvanized. I am not talking about zinc primer, I am saying that AMC used galvanized sheet metal in the unibody construction on the rocker panels.
I am not aware of anything but typical mild steel being used in the 60s-70s AMC bodies. If you have real proof about "higher grade" steel being used, "to shave off weight" post it.

Nope, cannot find it, have read it in some publication many years ago.
The only reference on line is the partial, incomplete, and not much good. It was found looking up "AMC hardbox subframe structure": "strength-to-weight ratio steels has caused re-evaluation of ... Several heats of ASTM A36 and A572 Grade 42 steels ... American Motors Corp" Pretty much useless unless you could determine were the different steels were used. |
