Ok--- BTW, I did not have to replace the tanks on either my 67 or 68 Ambassadors.

On two of my Americans I cleaned the tanks and then sealed them with Eastwood kits. Both leaked and neither has leaked since sealing, with one done in 2002 and the other in 2004. They both have 20 year old fuel filters, too. On my 66 American I used an early Mustang replacement tank from Tanks, Inc. because I was using fuel injection.  Perhaps something that is available is close enough.

that's good info. Like I said, I may be lucky, but am expecting the worst case. I'll know more once I remove the tank and inspect it closely.

The fuel pump will need to be rebuilt.

The gas tank will need to be cleaned and sealed. Many radiator shops will do this.

Mail-order new parts are a luxury that owners of popular Chevrolet and Ford vehicles have that most everybody else does not. The rest of us must work a little harder, but nothing is impossible.

i have used a tank from rear wheel drive CHRY products like DODGE DIPLOMAT and CHRY 5TH AVE the tank fills from the same same side as AMC REBEL sending unit mounts in front  you need a longer rubber filler tube  the tank is a few gallons smaller and you can still get new good luck from REBEL BOB p.s.the tanks where used mid  to late 1980s
