OK I have a question on vin numbers.....what I know I bought a 1963 amc rambler 2 door car vin number(from rh shock tower...g363340.....I know nothing else about the car except it was an automatic column shift didn't have a motor in it so that's no help. What I'm trying to figure out is the base model of the car 220/440/660 etc it does have a tag on door
Body r081382
Model 6316
Trim 353c
Paint 72
B218270

Any body know what any of this might mean???? Having no luck looking this stuff up.......thanks in advance 😀

You might have figured some of this out already from the Planet Houston link in the last post, but what you have is a Rambler Classic 6-cylinder car.  Most likely it would have been a 550 or a 660.  The 220, 330 and 440 series are Americans and 880 and 990 are Ambassadors.

So, Classics would have been 550, 660 or 770.  550 will not have any stainless trim on the side of the car.  660 will have it on the front 1/3, and a 770 will have it full length of the car.  The holes for the trim should be there even if the trim is missing, so if there are no holes it's most likely a 550.

I'm guessing that a 770 2-door, 6 cylinder car would have been much less common, but it is entirely possible.

Model 6316 is a six cylinder 550 2-door sedan.  AMC made 14,417 of them.  It was the lowest production 550 model in 1963.
