Thinking about getting carpet from Stock Interiors for a 68. Leaning toward loop pile to keep it looking original. They offer an 80/20, and a nylon carpet. What's the difference, and which one do I want? Are all the molded carpets made by ACC, so all vendors are selling the same product, or are there some differences between vendors?

As far as I know, they’re all ACC. Unless you go with a bespoke custom-made carpet to your specs, which would be $$$.

I don't recall where I ordered it from, but installed an ACC loop style carpet in a 68 AMX in the last year or so. It fit pretty good overall. One exception is where the gas pedal comes up from the floor - the right corner really pinches the carpet tight in a couple of directions. With a 69 and up with the suspended pedal the fit will be better. The other disappointment was that there was basically no "bulge" molded into the carpet for the 4-speed hump (they may have sent me the automatic version?). I ended up installing a Convenience Tray to hide where I had to cut a big notch to get the wrinkle pulled out between the seats due to the 4-sp hump. I also used a fair amount of jute padding to even out the transition to the hump. I think it probably would have worked great with an automatic with the console to hide where you can collect any excess material. I had to pad the rear wheel wells with about 3/4" of jute on each side to get the center-rear carpet to leave no gaps. My only comment on the loop is that you really have to be careful when drilling holes as it seems to start pulling loops pretty quickly. May have the same problem with the cut pile but may blend in easier. On a positive note (I guess), ACC sent the front set as loop and the wheel-wells/rear-center in cut pile. I reported the problem and they quickly sent me a new set for the back of the loop style - didn't even ask for me to send the wrong ones back.

As far as I am concerned I have not seen an aftermarket carpet set yet that was worth a dam in the AMX community. They stink

Everything may be ACC now unless you go custom. But 20-30 years ago there were a few choices. And some were very good, quality, fit well, and not molded. And yes they cost more than the typical junk.

Alright, back to the top. Getting ready to order carpet from Stock Interiors. Can anyone shed any light on the differences between their 80/20 loop and the nylon loop carpets? Mass backing seems like an expensive upgrade. I don't care about noise and heat qualities. I don't spend enough time in the car to care about that. Will it lay better, look better, .......???????

Peter Stathes (amcrambler.com) gives you a choice of molded or sewn for most models. To the original poster, you might call Peter and see if he can answer your question. He's been at this for a long time. I've never tried his carpet sets, but his rubber seals are the only ones I've found that are any good.

I had no idea that Peter deals in carpet sets. I have an email in to him. Thank you!
