The car is complete and used as a weekend driver. I need to replace the left upper door hinge assembly as the roller pin sheered off (I have a complete hinge assembly). The TSM is rather vague other than stating the bolts are accessible from behind the instrument panel. I’m hopeful I can remove the bolts by removing the instrument cluster to access them. Has anyone had any experience doing it that way? Will it be necessary to remove both the headlight and wiper switches? I do not want to remove the dash if I don’t have to. Thanks…

It's been a long time since I replaced an upper hinge, but you can reach those bolts without removing the dash. You have to find the place above the parking brake, that IIRC, had black tape over it from the factory. Get your flashlight out and stick your head under there and maybe use a little mirror and I think you'll find them! |

Remove the instrument cluster, and have a variety of extensions and a u joint for your ratchet. I just replaced all 4 of my hinges and the upper left is the worst as far as access. May need some band aids before you are done.

By roller pin do you mean the piece the windstop goes against? If so, this is removable without taking the hinge off

No, the pin that retains the roller for the door check. Turns out the hinge replacement I have is for the passenger side. I am now looking for a complete left upper door hinge for my car.

Jay, Forum member JavJav has both a rebuilding service and sells rebuilt door hinges. He's in Wisconsin, probably at Kenosha this week.
