This wire looks like factory production to me, not home made. It is on a 69 Javelin carcass. Neither of my 68 parts cars, or 68 drivers have this wire. APD sells a hex head screw for a firewall ground wire. What is the story on this wire??? Thanks.

I can’t tell from the picture. Is that a bare, braided mesh type wire ? Never had such a wire on my 69 AMX or my 69 Javelin.

Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

It appears that the wire is poked through the knockout for the A/C hoses for a car equipped with air conditioning. In other words; non-factory.

It is a black insulated wire. It is screwed into a hole alongside the A/C knockout.

Likely not factory.
It is in general bad (industrial) practice to use a screw for two purposes when one of them is critical, eg. grounding a wire. So AMC would have used a stud or a separate self-tapping screw for an important ground. Exceptions are using a motor flange screw for the motor ground wire. But never dissimilar purposes. Can't have the car start acting strangely when some tech starts fiddling with an A/C hose or whatever. |
