Sooo I've had this 1968 AMX since 1979.
I've haven't changed the Differential Fluid.
What oil do I use, standard 90 weight?
Thank you, Woody1968

42 years and no differential fluid change?
Take the cover off and clean out the differential. Wash it down with a can or 2 of WD40, light spray oil, non chlorinated brake cleaner ... of some sort, clean and inspect everything for wear/rust...
Service specification is 90 GL4, if limited slip - additive required.
Personal preference is 80W90 or 85W90.
Also have found synthetics are slightly noisier then conventional in older differentials.

A TSM with proper service specifications and maintenance schedule would be a good investment.

If it's a twin grip, add a friction modifier even if the lube says it's approved for limited slip.  I've had good luck with the Ford friction modifier, a 4oz bottle is about $8 online.

My 1970 TSM says to use limited slip additive whenever servicing an axle, even on an open differential.  So even if you aren't sure if your car has a twin grip, plan on adding the limited slip additive.

1970 AMX, one step forward, one step back. Both steps cost time and money.

Thank you!
Correction,  it was changed 15 years ago when I did the back brakes. The car has always been kept inside and doesn't get a lot of miles! Going to change that this summer!
I really love this Forum!
Thank you All!
