I know a bunch of (sport car) folk who've done the electric-assist steering thing and they all love it.

Well, this is still a hydraulic system. Most newer cars have electric steering that is provided by an electric motor under the dash that provides the assist to a manual steering rack. That's haw they are able to do the self parking and self steering features.
Does anyone know the output pressure of the Volvo pump? Saginaw boxes typically rewuire about 1200 psi whereas r&p's require much less. Also does this pump run continuously or is it somehow on demand? What about amp draw? The only advavtage I see is removing the belt driven pump from the engine. |
