The C clip that holds the trunk lock cylinder has come off and now the cylinder just spins in the hole and wont come out. I've tried to remove it before but it looked like the spoiler would have to be removed as well to make room ('72 Javelin) Whats the secret to get it open?

I guess I meant aside from the obvious. My days of crawling though tiny hatches, access shafts and in between sheet metal struts holding up the package tray are over. might have to kidnap a child for a few minutes

That is what grandkids are for. My son locked himself out of his beach house so my grandson went in through the dog door.

You can try to place the lock back on the hole. Make sure the lock cylinder is sitting in the correct position ( the ears of the lock cylinder are against the cut-out notched metal of the trunk lid) By applying moderate pressure to hold the lock cylinder in the correct position, you can turn the key ( make sure the lock cylinder does not turn) and open the trunk lid.
Second, if the lock cylinder comes completely out of the car with the arm, you can use a long but skinny flat screwdriver, install the screwdriver in the rectangle shape in the lock assembly and open the trunk lid with the screwdriver.
If that does not work, the only other way is remove the rear seat and use as many ratchet extensions as you can borrow and try to remove the bolts holding the lock to the trunk lid. |
