Howdy all, new to the AMC world...Been bringing a 66 199 survivor back to life, looking to do 2v upgrade. Seeking info regarding best source ie. year/model for compatibilty and any mods required. Understand later models switched to separate units...

You can technically use any 199/232/258 intake. In mid 1980 an aluminum intake was used to save weight. It used a different cast iron exhaust manifold that does not bolt to the intake. An electric heating element is in the bottom of the intake to heat it up faster in cold weather, but doesn't have to be used. Engine will just take a little longer to warm up in cold (<45 degrees or so) weather.

Pre 1980 models have cast iron intake and exhaust manifolds that bolt together. They use exhaust heat to warm the intake. When you put that type on you tighten all BUT the four bolts holding the two manifolds together -- they get tightened last.

I used an 82 aluminum intake on a 258. I plumbed the water jacket but didn't wire the electric heater, but I live in SoCal so it never gets cold. It would be a good thing in cold weather.
