The reason why I wanna switch carbs is easy to see in the picture below!
And the valve adjustment went well! It was pleasant to do and I didn't brake my hand! I stalled the engine while zero-ing the distance between rocker and stem with the feeler gage at the very last intake valve, after adjusting it to a looser gap, it wouldn't stall.

Good lord. It never ceases to amaze me what those "shade tree mechanics" aka hacks will do to a machine. My whole car had been "restored" by one of those types of people. What a mess.
