when you are looking at numbers in the machining world.......or in the engine specification world, .070 is a lot to me ?

DragRacingSpirit - I'll go along with that .070" is considerable, but not "huge" physically, in context.

I agree that it is a lot, it makes me nervous.  It is visible, when I was looking the block over, it was easy to tell that it had been decked more than typical.  My measurements could be off a bit, but not much.  I certainly wish the previous owner had not taken that route.  I’m not positive piston availability was the reasoning, but that is all I can figure.  They could have put 401 rods in, that would have got the pistons to .028-.030 in the hole which is where they are now after the decking.  It was a bad choice, someone was trying to recover from a mistake.

.07 should cause no issues but you should plane the intake surfaces
on all three planes. Heads and gasket deck.

.02 should cause no issues.

Keeping a .030 to .040 quench may cause you some fits :-)

Im gonna end up getting pistons for it I bet, it’s not worth the hassle of having issues.  Also, I can get the compression ratio where I want it.  Thanks for the input all.  Andy
