Roller cams are great in modern engines that are designed for them. However, installing a roller cam in an engine that never had a roller cam as a factory option brings with it a new set of potential failure modes.
There are only a few reasons that a modern hydraulic flat-tappet cam would ‘wipeout’: improper break-in procedure, improper metallurgy (hardening) of the cam lobes/lifter faces, & improper or no break-in lubricant used. If the metallurgy is questionable with certain cam manufacturers, then best to stay way from them and go with a manufacturer with a proven track record; points 1 & 3 can be corrected for. A $1,000 is a lot to be able to put into something else.

With Lunati's guidance, I've decided to go with the 10100703 cam. They said with the 2500 stall and 3.54 gears I acquired, the cam would be the best choice in the 401. The Offenhauser intake will definitely be the bottleneck when it comes to power, but we'll see how it does with it.
