Does the Holley 258 distributor work in 69 199 ? I’m really considering installing Holley Sniper.

I would guess that yes, it will probably fit in the hole.
I sent a Prestolite points type distributor from a 66 232 to a guy with a Jeep and he sent me back his defective whatever brand (autolite?) with $50 under the cap so I guess he was happy with what he got. Edited by vinny - Jun/23/2021 at 6:55am |

Why that's a nice surprise! and a sense of humor (and faith...)! |

Hi, I have a Holley Sniper BBD on my 77 258 Hornet. I really like it. You will need a 2 bbl intake though. I used one from an 82 Eagle. Holley now also makes a 1bbl Sniper, though I have no experience with that one. good luck, gz

I had ordered the new 1bbl Sniper, but when this '60 American popped up, and it was still on backorder, and my card hadn't been charged, I cancelled it. Too much for a new-car bring-up and I needed to conserve cash. But I have the gas tank out now and will put the return line in, for later. I do want to ditch the carb at first opportunity. Glad to know the 2bbl is working out!

Ok, maybe this is off topic, but I've noticed the vacuum device on the side of my distributor has been pried open and crimped closed, I did a suck test and the suck test prooved the vacuum works, so I geuss I'll have to wait and see how it works when the engines running, also, the little screw on the breaker plate, that rotates and moves slightly between it's beginning and end of rotation, what does that screw do? What does it adjust?
The distributor I have is the original, I put a nice new rotor in it after I carefully took it all apart and cleaned the whole thing, the old rotor had a large chunk busted off the end near the metal piece that swings close to each spark plug post and send the spark through the spark plug wire/high tension lead to the spark plug. Also, I was thinking of replacing the points, but the tsm details that the points although blackened(might have to do a fact check on this) the points can still work fine, the tsm says also do not ever use Emery cloth or sand paper, and I think I read somewhere else the reason for this is that tiny particles still left in between the points can Interefere with good point contact. So, I have new points but want to try and clean up the old contacts first, the cap looks fine and is not cracked, I haven't got new wires yet, and have opened the little screw on the side and replenished the oil for the reservoir in the shaft for the porous bushing with 20w oil and sealed the screw with thread lock that withstands exspoure to oil.
