Off topic, but that's a great chart Scrappy!
With the temperature spike also comes the pressure spike. This is why you will most likely find a coolant leak after shutting down the engine. Especially if you have a bad radiator cap!

Yes because the coolant is still absorbing heat from the iron block and heads - but has no way to get rid of it. My brother had that issue with his 69 - it would dribble out the overflow after it was shut off but otherwise was fine (well, it ran warm) New cap solved the "leak". |

It's in line with the preceding commentary about post-shutdown effects on the fuel system components in the engine compartment. While I did mention all the locations I took data from, the chart only shows the temperature at the base of the carburetor, which is on-topic.
