In fact, the 287 and 327 used the same valves as the 250.

Yes all '56-'67 RV8 heads use the same size valve diameters but apparently single groove locks were used on some as opposed to the more common 4 groove/rotating type.
No; not all head castings are the same. There are at least five different castings: 1) '56-'62 open chamber 250 2) '57-? 'smooth exterior' 327 3) '63-'66 'flush chamber' 287? 4) ?-'65 'recessed chamber' 327 5) '66-'67 air injection bosses protruding into the exhaust ports 287 & 327 Hence, there are at least three different chamber sizes & the '66/7 heads have increased exhaust port restriction. What is the difference between '56-58 327 E valves and '59-66 E valves, the number of grooves?

Will a 327 left exhaust manifold fit on a 250 v8 ?
Also anyone know who sells the exhaust manifold gasket for the 250, and is it the same as the 327? Can this be converted to dual exhausts ? It has a weird exhaust pipe cross under the engine, that meets the right side by the starter. If the exhaust is separated where they meet on the right side, is there any benefit in HP gain?

My '57 Rambler Super with the 250 V8 still had the factory ceramic-coated dual exhausts. I didn't have to deal with any crossover pipe.
What body style are you working with?

The heads on the 250 in the early days were virtually identical between the 327 and the 250, EXCEPT the '57 Rebel heads were milled to raise compression to 9.5:1. The 250 and the '57 Rebel had solid lifters, while the '57 Hornet and the '57-'66 Ambassadors [and '63-up Classics with V8s] had hydraulic lifters.
So the gaskets would be identical, since the ports were identical. My '57 Rambler Super with the 250 had the WCFB 4-barrel, and it would run 120 mph all night, or at least until you ran out of road capable of attaining that speed. I'd really like to have a '56 Hornet Special, since Dad and Granddad were Hudson dealers in that era. Of course, the Hollywood is the Holy Grail on those. |
