Hi All,
Just got my 304 back from the rebuilder and the parts kit ordered through him. The thrust bearings are identical, no lower or upper, no tangs with oil hole on both. Is this normal? Most of the pictures I see show no oil hole on the cap side. Clevite/Mahle part number MB2578P @ .010 Thanks!

Normal now, for Clevite, maybe.
I have been using King for a while. It does make sense if you consider that theses are machine made and making both halves exactly the same is cheaper. Can up production and reduce costs. The hole in the cap is at the highest force area. If it fills with oil and keeps an oil wedge it would be a good thing. Only time will tell if this is what happens. Many Forums of the other major vehicle manufacturer's are asking the same question as Clevite's newer products do not have tangs. Bearing end crush holds the bearing in place and not the tang. The tang is a convenient assembly locator. That part you need not worry about. If your not happy with the Clevite I would recommend going to the King mains. They, at least to me, have a better product now. |

Thanks Trader, kinda what I suspected but the manufacturer sure didn't communicate the change or give any reason for it. I'm sure it's driven by cost savings.
