cam--the "traditional" socal amc show (aka mark melvin) has gone away and in its place are other shows that feature
amc cars and other vehicles as well. the spring fling (read mopar) always occurs in van nuys, ca, in mid-april and features a few amc trophies--this is a HUGE show. stan kelley's santa maria show, featuring all defunct manufactured vehicles is always in late may.  the cougar club has an annual show in fullerton, ca, and has included us in their trophy classes for years. that's in late september.  cruisin grand typically runs from April-September (although it began in june, for some reason this year) and features all makes.  that's pretty much it for us here in socal. we don't have the numbers and organization that the amc groups across other portions of the country have to put on amc-only shows and i think it's sad. but, that's the way it is.  i would suggest a visit that incorporates the santa maria show with cg as your best bet.

Well that sucks.  I didn't know that the SoCal show had gone away, but haven't been keeping up with the schedules as much since I sold the BBO AMX.  Hopefully, I can make Santa Maria next year.

Let's go virtual! We have the club meetings online, the first Sunday of the month starting at 7:00pm. All AMC'ers are welcome, around the world. This coming Sunday, July 2nd we have a special guest, Dan is building a replica of a famous racing Hornet and has lots of vintage images and project updates to share with us. Spent the morning setting things up on the new computer. Got around to the Javelin in the afternoon, nice weather to work on the car. I am concerned that I may not have the Romec balancer all the way on the crank. Sometimes I feel like I am just mocking things up to make sure they fit, instead of really putting things together. How does this look to you guys? Tomorrow I will work on mounting the alternator, to see how the belt lines up. It's nice working with manual steering now. The P/S pump brackets are more than I want to deal with at the moment. I took the manual steering box apart, cleaned it and filled it with lithium grease. It's back in the car and turns easily, except for the turn when it's centered, it gets difficult to turn for about a full 360 degrees. Probably needs to be rebuilt with a new worm gear and seals. i was thinking of sending it to Doug at APD. From the website, it sounds like he needs the core sent first, probably running out of cores.

Thanks for your support and encouragement Steve. I just installed the radiator, shroud and dual Spal fans. Tomorrow, Alex, the Television Engineer from work, shows up to help with the wiring.

Stopped by Crusin Grand in Escondido tonight to see some friends displaying their AMC's. Randy, Steve, Terry and Gordon.
I am setting ambitious goals for myself. I just registered for the

33rd Annual Vista Rod Run, Sunday, September 3, 2023, 9:00am - 2:00pm

It's a mile from my house and afterwards I will be hosing a BBQ at my house for our So Cal AMC club. We will have elections and turn in our annual AMO chapter paperwork.

Alex came by this morning, Amy made a great breakfast, then we were off to make some improvements to the electrical system. Alex got the Meziere electric water pump working, it's so quiet. Then he fired up the two SPAL fans with the thermostat and the switch on the Moroso rocker switch panel with circuit breakers, it's loud! We ran the Holley Blue electric fuel pump for the first time since I rebuilt it, sounds loud as usual. All the lights checked out OK, turn signals, brake lights, head lights. I have some cleaning up to do, but Alex did the bulk of the hard work including several soldering jobs. Thanks Alex! Alex once told me, "you can't afford me and I do crappy work". That was funny, but you do great work!

By design a new harmonic dampener inside bore is smaller than the crank snout.   They want a tight press fit but it may require honing the inside of the dampener to the correct bore.   There should be instructions on the specification and need measurements of the crank snout.

Thanks for the tip, maybe I should have heated the balancer up in the over first to slip on easier.
The SoCalAMC Zoom meeting was a success. There were about a dozen of us and some stayed almost three hours talking. Dan's race Hornet presentation was a hit! You can watch it here, on YouTube.
