This is very true. The wide selection of Dana 60 ratios has gone away with the popularity of the Ford 9". Also, the least ratio I have ever seen for the common Dana 60 is 3.54, which may not be small enough if you are looking for highway cruising. If it matters, a mechanical advantage of the Dana 60 is that it has the least hypoid distance (distance between the centerline of the pinion gear and the center of the ring gear) of any of the axles mentioned. The Ford 9" has the greatest. It takes more power to drive the Ford 9" because of the inherent additional friction. The actual weight difference between all the rear ends mentioned is not more than about 20 lbs. if the assembly parts are well selected. I put together a Dana 60 for a Hornet that weighed less than 160 lbs. with brakes using no exotic parts. It did have a spool, however. There is a lot of relevant information if you care to research. A Dana 60 on the street is just eye candy....But nice eye candy at that...Lets face it a lot of rears blow from poor instillation....It`s only a bunch of gears what could possibly go wrong..lol
