Hey y'all I'm in the process of rebuilding my 68 290 block and I was wondering if it be alright putting double wound valve springs in. I'm puting in a new cam and lifters. Should I replace any other part of the valve train? Rockers, pushrods?

Cam choice dictates the spring choice
Rpm lifter type ect If it's a street car running mild rpm u would probably wipe a lobe using a double spring With today's oils |

Stick between 115-130 seat using a mild cam
130-150 using a stout cam 300-330 open for either. |

Talk to your cam maker,
you may need new pushrods if the base circle of the cam changes, if you've decked the block, or cut the heads. You'll need new rocker studs if you want/need an adjustable valvetrain, most off the shelf cams will have a list of mandatory, and optional parts and recomendations.

Most cam manufacturers offer a cam kit that includes cam, lifters, matching springs, and occasionally retainers. I wiped a lobe on a Crane cam in less than 1000 miles and they wouldn't warranty it because I didn't use their valve springs. They said the springs I used were too heavy (and probably were). You should check the springs for height, diameter and load, even when buying a "set".
Load can be checked with a bathroom scale and drill press. Your not looking for accuracy in actual load reading but consistency between springs. Had sets that when compressed 1/2" are 15 lbs or more variation, different heights and even wire size. Usually buy 2 sets and take one set that all are within 2 lbs, 0.005", no wire size variation and return the other "set". Once had to buy a third set.
